Pediatric Orthodontist in Las Vegas

Orthodontics is a type of dentistry used to move teeth into a better position. With treatments like braces or Invisalign clear aligners, your child can have straighter teeth and a more comfortable bite.

The majority of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment are children and teenagers. That’s because children’s jaws are constantly growing to accommodate new teeth, which allows teeth to be moved easily during treatment. Visiting a children’s orthodontist (also called a pediatric orthodontist) is the best way to ensure that your child gets dental care that’s specifically targeted to their age group.

To find out if orthodontic treatment would be a good option for your child, call Children’s Dentistry, the premiere children’s orthodontist in Las Vegas, to schedule your kids for an appointment.

Does My Child Need Orthodontic Treatment?

That’s the most common question we get asked here at Children’s Dentistry. The answer to this question? The only way to know for sure is for your child to visit the office for a full examination. Children’s orthodontics screenings allow for any problems to be caught and treated early. While not all children will require orthodontic treatment, every child should visit a children’s orthodontist for their first screening by age seven. This orthodontic evaluation is used to see if your child has any jaw irregularities or developmental complications that may indicate the need for treatment.girl wearing orthodontic braces

Some signs that your child may require orthodontic treatment include:

  • A jaw that is disproportionate to their face
  • Frequent thumb sucking
  • Chronically breathing from the mouth rather than the nose
  • Primary teeth that fall out too early or too late
  • Malocclusion (overbite/underbite)
  • Visible crowding of the teeth

Orthodontic Options

Children’s first orthodontist visit will include a visual examination as well as maxillofacial x-rays. Our children’s orthodontist in Las Vegas may also ask you about your child’s habits, including thumb sucking. Based on this analysis, the orthodontist will discuss potential treatment options if necessary. Those options may include:

  • Ceramic Braces: These braces are similar to traditional metal braces, but have the added advantage of blending to the natural color of your child’s teeth.
  • Lingual Braces: While traditional braces are placed on the front of the teeth, lingual braces are distinct for being affixed on the back of the teeth. This allows your child to have their braces hidden without being seen.
  • Invisalign: We’re proud to offer the revolutionary Invisalign system here at Children’s Dentistry. These clear plastic aligners are placed over the teeth, and can easily come in and out of the mouth when needed.

If your child is fitted for an orthodontic appliance like braces or a retainer, there are special instructions you and your child will need to follow. The children’s orthodontist will discuss proper care, and it’s important to help your child follow these rules.

When your child visits Children’s Dentistry, our compassionate and knowledgeable staff will guide both you and your child through the process of having braces. For instance, your child will have to eliminate foods like candy and popcorn kernels from their diet in order to protect their braces. Proper teeth brushing and flossing are especially necessary to prevent any decay. There’s no stress! Our fully-accredited team of orthodontic specialists are here to help.
